Your Neighbourhood Guide to Noordhoek

Noordhoek beach horse

Noordhoek, a laidback coastal suburb, epitomes the art of slow living. Here, you’ll discover restaurants ranging from fine to casual dining, along with bars, wineries, art galleries, and horse riding.

Here’s everything you can enjoy in Noordhoek on your next visit:

Where to Eat

The Foodbarn

Café by day and tapas bar by night, The Foodbarn, located in the Noordhoek Farm Village, is the brainchild of chef Franck Dangereux. The restaurant offers a mix of casual and fine dining, serving breakfast, lunch, and a tapas dinner menu.

Meals are “consciously cooked” with local ingredients, so expect items like grilled salmon santée, karoo lamb rack, with leeks & ricotta dollari, and stewed tripe and trotters with chili and tomato, “panisse” frites. The Foodbarn welcomes pets and is open daily from 8 am for breakfast, lunch, and all-day snacks. The tapas dinner service runs from Tuesday to Saturday, from 5 pm.

Take in the Views and Waves at Noordhoek Beach

Noordhoek Beach is an unspoiled stretch of coastline renowned for its expansive sands and natural beauty. Perfect for walks, swimming (if you’re willing to brave the cold Cape Town waters), and surfing. You might even spot horses trotting along the shore, as many companies offer horseback riding experiences on the beach. Dogs are welcome and do not require a lead. If you plan on visiting, it’s best to go in a group and during busier times for added safety.

Go on an Adventurous Horse Ride

One activity you must try is horse riding, which takes you along the dunes towards Noordhoek Beach. One of the horse-riding providers, The Dunes, hosts 3 horse rides a day. Their Kakapo Horse Trail allows you to explore the broken ribs and rusted boiler of the Kakapo shipwreck, still visible in the soft white sand after more than 100 years. Experienced riders may choose to gallop down the racehorse sand track.
