Happy World Environment Day! 🌍
Celebrated annually on 5 June, this day encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. 🍃
Places like @robben_island Museum (RIM) roll up their sleeves to clean the coastline and protect the island’s fragile marine ecosystem and the critical endangered African Penguin and Bank Cormorant. 🐧
RIM’s annual coastal clean-up sees staff, scholars, and community volunteers come together to collect debris in an effort to eliminate plastic pollution.
These efforts result in over 1000 bags of litter being collected in a single clean-up. These initiatives help preserve the island’s rich history and serve as educational platforms, raising awareness among participants about the impact of waste on marine ecosystems. 🚮
