The Chad Session

Festive Lights Switch On

This will be the 54th addition for the Festive Lights Switch on for the City of Cape Town and according to Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis this year’s theme ‘A Future of Hope’ encapsulates the vision for the city, and what every Capetonian wants for our country too. With this theme in mind, the event will feature a youth performing arts competition which will see an energic line-up of gifted artists alongside other festival favourites. After Mayor Hill-Lewis switches on the festive lights and calls the festive season and summer into full swing for Cape Town, a pyrotechnics display and spectacular light show will ignite the City Hall wall and a massive purpose-built tree of joy will be on full display.

And Then…, the latest iteration in an award-winning dance series, opens this month. jackï job is an accomplished artist known for constantly raising the bar of contemporary dance performance. Her creations with a sense of magic, constantly seeking to conjure new textures and vibrations on stage. A contemporary dancer, first-generation Butoh performer and pioneer of Butoh on the African continent, she has created a polished, unique dance style that ignites the imagination. Using shaking, unpredictable, rhythmic movements, her body extends and contracts in ways that reach into the heart. In concert with her longstanding collaborator José Dias, she creates innovative, organic performances that have riveted and moved people all over the world.
