Gin

On the lookout for the best gin experiences in the Mother City? Sip, savour, and soak up award-winning gins while enjoying some of Cape Town’s most picturesque views.

Here are some of our favourite gin tastings and pairings to enjoy during the hot days:

Mzansi Gin

If you’re after killer views of Table Mountain and gin to match, make your way to Salt and Sage in Blouberg for an exclusive Mzansi Gin tasting. This proudly woman-owned gin company serves four unique gin ranges: a Fynbos citrus blend, Marula-infused, Rooibos-infused, and a 420 (cannabis) infused gin. Each one is perfectly paired with tonic water. And if you’re in the mood for something extra, their gin cocktails are perfect for sundowners or can be paired with one of their delicious dishes.

Location: Shop 1, Marine Promenade Centre at 10 Beach Blvd
Price: R85 for 4 pairings.

Deep South Distillery

For a unique gin experience, head to Deep South Distillery on the Cape Peninsula. They’re all about small-batch, hand-crafted spirits, and this tasting is unlike any other you’ve tried. Here, you’ll be encouraged to “taste through the layers” of gin, exploring how different ingredients (even ice!) can completely change the taste and aromas of your gin cocktails.

The experience includes a complimentary distillery tour, so you can see how their magic happens behind the scenes. The tastings are only available on Fridays and Saturdays from 11am to 4:30pm (last tour at 3:30pm). Weekday tastings are by appointment.

Location: Heron Park, 53 Wildevoelvlei Rd, Kommetjie
Cost: R150 for gin tasting, including a complimentary distillery tour.

Hope Distillery

If you’re into quality gin, Hope Distillery’s tasting room in the trendy suburb of Salt River is a must-visit. Their cool, well-decorated tasting room is the perfect spot to sip on a few of their signature gins. You can choose between a mini tasting, pick from their three flagship options, or go all in and try all four. While you’re sipping, an expert will walk you through the gin-making process and even show you how to pour the perfect gin and tonic—made with their own house-made tonic, of course. It’s a fun and informative way to get your gin fix!

Location: 7 Hopkins St, Salt River
Cost: Tastings start from R120
