Part caravan park, part designer farm lodge, Old Mac Daddy in Elgin shines as a one-stop destination for all.
Around an hour from Cape Town, Old Mac Daddy is perfect for those who are seeking adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable moments.
Where to stay
Whether you’re looking to gather a group of mates for a glamping retreat, enjoy a romantic couple’s vacay in a themed trailer suite, or opt for luxury accommodation with striking views, there’s an option for everyone at Old Mac Daddy.
Their tented camps are equipped with all modern conveniences, including double or single beds, separate shower facilities, quality linen, a seating area, and an exclusive wood-fired hot tub in the Big Daddy’s Den tented camp.
Daddy’s Hideaway, a new tented camp perched atop a secluded valley, is adorned with luxurious touches and stylish finishes. It features a private plunge pool, an indulgent bathtub and shower, a coffee pod machine, and complimentary Wi-Fi.
The Airstream trailers sport quirky names bound to evoke a chuckle. Picture names like “Private Life of Plants,” “Love Cake,” “For Better or Boerewors,” “Life Before Colour,” and “Mills and Boons.” These one-of-a-kind trailers are furnished with a queen bed, mini bar, air conditioning and heating, a bathroom with a shower, towels, and eco-friendly amenities.
The Apple Grove Cottage, where we stayed, boasts three bedrooms with ensuites, a spacious living area, a kitchen, outdoor seating, a hot tub, and private access to the lake.
Other luxury accommodations include Daddy’s Villa and The School House, perfect for larger groups of friends or family.
Adventure overload
After unpacking and indulging in their famous pizzas, we embarked on an exhilarating afternoon of quad biking. The hour-long activity takes you along some of the most picturesque views, including flower fields, rocky mountains, and vineyards as far as the eye can see.
Expect it to get messy, so be sure to carry a swimsuit for watersports at Daddy’s Beach and Bar that afternoon. Enjoy Stand Up Paddle Boarding, kayaking, or catch-and-release fishing (dependent on dam levels) before sipping some of their acclaimed cocktails while watching the sunset. Old Mac Daddy also offers activities such as archery, mountain biking (with limited bikes available for rent), tractor rides, and zorbing.
Quiet time
If adventure is not your vibe, you can spend the afternoon enjoying a nature walk, indulging in spa treatments, or lazing by the pool. For a touch of excitement, challenge a friend to a game of pool or explore the library for a captivating read.
Time to eat
The Barn Restaurant offers a diverse menu and utilises only fresh, free-range, and organic ingredients (where possible). The restaurant caters to vegan visitors as well as fussy little ones.
