Cape Town offers an excellent array of local markets. With everything from food markets to craft and antique markets and even specialist gift markets – there really is a market for everyone to enjoy in the Mother City.


· V&A Waterfront Food Market

Located in the Old Power Station at the V&A Waterfront, the V&A Waterfront Food Market is an artisanal retail and street food market that offers everything from fish and chips to dumplings and incredible, vegan-friendly ice-cream.

With over 40 stalls, this market offers shoppers the perfect range of delicious, affordable food and drinks, while also supporting local small business owners and traders.

There is an upstairs and downstairs section, and both indoor and outdoor seating, and the atmosphere within is friendly and welcoming. Over weekends and public holidays, the market also has live music to really set that market mood.

Note: While they trade seven days a week – including on public holidays – they are closed on Christmas Day (25 December 2021).

· The Oranjezicht City (OZCF) Farm Market, V&A Waterfront

As one of Cape Town’s most consistently popular markets, this vibrant Waterfront-based market needs little introduction. The OZCF market focuses on fresh, local and seasonal healthy produce, delicious, yet health-conscious food and drinks and even a selection of plants, fresh cut flowers and gardening-related items too.

Best of all, all dietary requirements are catered to, including vegan- and vegetarian-friendly and even gluten-, dairy- and sugar-free-options.

Usually held on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), the market has also introduced an exciting, limited Wednesday night market to the mix – perfect for stocking up on all your healthy produce and goodies during summertime (from November to March)!

· The Bay Harbour Market, Hout Bay

Situated in the heart of Hout Bay, this popular market is one of Cape Town’s favourite city markets. · Kirstenbosch Craft and Food Market, Newlands

This well-loved, longstanding outdoor market, which offers incredible local craft-, food- and designer-stalls, is one of the finest markets in the Mother City.

Here, on the last Sunday of every month, you can shop for everything from original, handcrafted items to tasty food, craft beers and even wine by the glass.

Best of all, friendly, leashed dogs are welcome so the whole family gets to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine in one of the city’s leafiest suburbs, Newlands.

· Edgemead Christmas Market

This Christmas market is one of the most well-loved markets around – so much so, that shoppers anticipate its return each year!

Held at the Edgemead Community Centre, this special Christmas market is set to feature more than 200 of the Cape’s finest crafters – with some travelling from as far as George and Montagu to sell their goods.

Products are of the highest quality – and the Christmas lights and festive spirit are sure to set the tone for a wonderful Christmas market.

The Mojo Market in Sea Point


· The Neighbourgoods Market, Old Biscuit Mill

Held every Saturday, come rain or shine, this popular market is held at the historic Old Biscuit Mill and is one market everyone visiting Cape Town needs to experience at least once.

Offering everything from designer street food (that aims to cater to all dietary needs and requirements) to chic goods, baked treats, speciality products and so much more. There really is something for everyone here.

As a bonus, this Woodstock-based market is also pet-friendly, provided dogs are leashed and owners clean up after their pooches.
