Market shopping is big in Cape Town, and locals love to spend summer evenings and weekends browsing the stalls, selling everything from curios and clothes, to delectable food and drinks. Here are just some of our favourite markets that you can visit while in the city.

Oranjezicht City Farm Market, V&A Waterfront

The Oranjezicht City Farm Market Days are all about products and produce of local urban farmers. Everything from seasonal fruit, veg, and flowers to homemade goodies is on offer here. The market is well-known for catering to all types of foodies, including vegans and vegetarians. Wheat, gluten, sugar, and dairy-free alternatives are also served.

Blue Bird Garage Food and Goods Market, Muizenberg

The Bluebird Market is located in an old warehouse in Muizenberg. Here you can get amazing homemade and heart-warming food, great entertainment, and fun for the whole family.

The Bay Harbour Market, Hout Bay

The Bay Harbour Market is situated on the water’s edge at the old Hout Bay Harbour. It is a bustling hub over weekends, with more than 100 stalls, a fish factory, and a stage for live music. You can also expect a wide range of weekly traders, draught beers on tap, artisan food stalls, art, and crafts.

When: Friday, 09:30-17:00; Saturday and Sunday, 09:30-16:00

Kirstenbosch Craft and Food Market, Kirstenbosch Stone Cottages

The ever-popular market at Kirstenbosch consists of around 180 crafters who sell original, hand-crafted goods, and there is plenty of food on offer as well! Proceeds from stall rentals go straight to the Development Fund for Kirstenbosch Gardens.

Watershed at the V&A Waterfront

The Watershed sells a huge variety of products, ranging from furniture and textiles to fashion and jewellery. It’s a perfect spot for gift-shopping or simply to treat yourself to something special.

Durbanville Craft Market, Rust-en-Vrede

The Durbanville Craft Market is held monthly on selected Saturday mornings. Roam the gardens of Rust-en-Vrede, browsing Christmas décor, confectionery, handmade gifts, preserves, home décor, food, and much more.

Neighbourgoods Market, The Old Biscuit Mill, Woodstock

One of the hippest markets in Cape Town is the weekly Neighbourgoods Market in Woodstock. It offers quirky shops selling crafts, clothing and jewellery. The highlight here is the incredible food stall, serving everything from breakfast fare to dumplings and gyros with craft beers to wash it all down.

Located opposite the giant strawberry on the R44, between Somerset West and Stellenbosch, the ROOT44 Market is the perfect Saturday activity for the whole family. There is a natural wood play park and lawn area for the kids.

When: Every Saturday and Sunday, 10am – 4pm

Earth Fair Market, St George’s Mall and Tokai

The Earth Fair Market takes place on Thursdays in the City Bowl, and Wednesdays and Saturdays in Tokai. Expect overwhelming choices of delicious, locally made food.

Lourensford Market, Somerset West

Wander the landscaped gardens or sprawl out on the lawns at the neautiful Lourensford Wine Estate and the Helderberg’s trendiest weekend hangout. Expect fun for the kids, live music, a live DJ on Friday nights, vintage cars, and even a doggie bar for your four-legged friends.
