Cape Town’s New Museum Is Unlike Anything You Have Seen

Museum of Illusions will officially open its doors on Kloof Street

Cape Town has a new museum, and it promises hours of stimulating fun!

The globally renowned Museum of Illusions opened its doors on Kloof Street in Gardens, marking its debut in Cape Town and becoming the second Museum of Illusions in South Africa and third on the continent.

Visitors can expect 60 jaw-dropping illusions and mind-bending experiences, ideal for both young and old.

Originally founded in Zagreb, Croatia in 2015, the Museum of Illusions quickly evolved into a global success, having welcomed more than 12 million guests around the world.  Each location is uniquely designed, offering its own take on interactive exhibits that blend science and magic to create awe-inspiring, hands-on experiences.

What To Expect

Forget everything you know about museum etiquette. At the Museum of Illusions Cape Town, visitors are encouraged to touch, play, explore, and take photos. Whether you’re defying gravity in the Tilted Room, losing your head in the Clone Table, or multiplying yourself in the Infinity Room, this is a place that will leave your mind truly blown.

Situated in the heart of Cape Town’s bustling city centre, the museum takes you on an extraordinary journey through the world of optical illusions, interactive installations, and immersive rooms that challenge perceptions and ignite curiosity.

Guests will enjoy more than 60 visual and educational exhibits featuring holograms, stereograms, optical illusions, and immersive rooms that are designed to tease the senses and trick the mind.

Mark Collie, owner of the Museum of Illusions South Africa, said Cape Town’s creativity and curiosity made it the perfect home for the next sensory playground.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring the experience to the Mother City. This isn’t just a museum, it’s a space where science, art, and wonder collide to challenge how we see the world and ourselves.”

True to its “edutainment” philosophy, the museum appeals to both curious kids and the young-at-heart. You can also host your birthdays, company team builds, educational school trips or other events.
