Cape Town Pride 2023 set to thrill this weekend

Get ready for a magical Cape Town Pride 2023 on Saturday, 4 March 2023. The eagerly anticipated event will be held at the Green Point Track and is expected to be the biggest ever Pride event the city has ever seen. The event, organised by Cape Town Pride and OUTReach Africa, provides a platform for Cape Town’s LGBTQIA+ community and raises awareness about issues they face.

What to expect at this year’s Pride

The annual extravaganza will feature a bigger stage, larger grounds, more stalls, and captivating entertainment. Performers this year include Dope St Jude, Jarrad Ricketts, Manila Von Teez, 3 Fingers, 3 Divas, The Trans-formers, 3 Tons of Fun, Belinda Qaqamba Ka-Fassie and Craig Jordaan.

One of the main attractions at this year’s event is The Pride Parade, which starts in Alfred Street (outside Prestwich Primary School) at 12pm.

The parade ends at Green Point Track car park.

The festivities continue at Pride Mardi Gras with food and drink stalls and other colourful activations.

Tickets for the Pride Mardi Gras can be purchased from Quicket, while the Pride March is free to attend.

Emphasising the importance of Pride

Festival director Wentzel April explained that Cape Town Pride 2023 will showcase events that represent the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community. These include the Pride Party, Mr & Miss Cape Town Pride pageant, Divas Extravaganza, movie nights, book nights and poetry evenings.

The first 4-night Pride cruise aboard the luxurious Sinfonia took place this week.

“While we host world-class events, Pride’s mission is clear: we provide a platform for the City’s LGBTQIA+ community to raise awareness of the community’s issues, facilitate campaigns that allow our people to live their lives on an equal footing and help our diverse community remain visible and represented,” said April.
