The Cape Town Carnival is back, and this year, it’s bigger, bolder, and more “WowZA” than ever!
This much-loved family event draws hundreds of revellers to the Mother City each year, shining a spotlight on Cape Town’s top local talent.
Here’s what you can look forward to this year:
What To Expect at this year’s Cape Town Carnival
Celebrating 15 years of the Cape Town Carnival, get ready for amazing performers and jaw-dropping floats as they parade down Greenpoint’s Fan Walk on Saturday, 15 March 2025.
This year’s theme, “WowZA!”, brings a few exciting new additions. You’ll get to see Cape Town’s favourite rugby team, The DHL Stormers, “Taking the Cape by Storm” with their float down Somerset Street.
Also joining the fun is Rio’s Carnival superstar Erika Januza, who’ll bring a taste of Brazil to the streets. The “Queen of the Drums” will be joined by some of Cape Town’s hottest drag queens from The Drag Cartel: Maxine Wild, Dee Blogging, Diamante Eclipse, Valentina Petronella (LeCap), Le Baby, and Emogen Moore.
Music fans can look forward to performances from Bravo Le Roux, YoungstaCPT, and Paxton Fielies.
And, of course, Cape Town’s beloved firefighters will bring the heat.
The Chinese community, marching bands, and traditional dancers will light up the Fan Walk.
Bringing People Together
Cape Town Carnival CEO Jay Douwes said the event brings together people from different communities across the city.
“This year we mark 15 incredible years celebrating community-based creativity and culture – if you haven’t been to Greenpoint in March, you haven’t experienced the most life-affirming event of the year,” she said.
