Stellenbosch- About the Neighbourhood
Stellenbosch, South Africa’s second-oldest town, is rich in history, culture and natural beauty.
Add adventure, wine and food experiences to the mix and you have a winner.
Adventure seekers can trek off-road on a non-motorised scooter trip through the thrilling paths and slopes of Jonkershoek Nature Reserve. Or hike through this 9,800-hectare UNESCO World Heritage site, navigating different trails and footpaths.
Getting around is easy, whether you jump on a bus, eBike or a tuk-tuk around Stellenbosch to various wine estates. Visitors can also enjoy segway rides in some of the most beautiful vineyards.
Take a leisurely tour of the town on a bicycle – passing historic sites, Stellenbosch University and cycling through the Jonkershoek Valley. Or burst through the treetops on a thrilling zipline adventure.
If markets are more your thing, spend a day at Route 44 Market, surrounded by picturesque vineyards and trees. The market offers live entertainment, 80 craft stalls and a selection of over 50 food traders.
Picnics and wine tastings are plentiful in Stellenbosch.
Opt for a pre-packed picnic on one of the farms in Stellenbosch or indulge in a wine bus tour, which includes three wine tastings, a cellar tour featuring a tasting from a barrel (where possible) and a traditional South African braai for lunch.
History buffs will appreciate a visit to Stellenbosch’s Village Museum, home to a range of exhibitions, including the Schreuderhuis – the oldest restored townhouse in South Africa.
The Stellenbosch Botanical Garden is also pretty impressive. See a wide range of exotic and indigenous plants, shaded trails, small streams and ponds. Or grab a basket and go strawberry picking on a local farm.
Art fanatics can book a guided art tour highlighting 11 significant points of interest, and bird enthusiasts can revel in Eagle Encounters, a bird-of-prey rehabilitation, conservation, and eco-tourism project.
Shopping is equally popular, with retailers ranging from cute boutiques to antique stores and shopping malls.
End the day with a party at one of the nightclubs dotted around town.

Meet Donovan Goliath, the Eastern Cape-born, Joburg-based creative exploring Cape Town with a fresh perspective.
This week, Donovan is swapping city streets for vineyard views as he heads to Stellenbosch to spend time with Vivian Kleynhans, founder and CEO of Seven Sisters Vineyards.
One of the first, and still one of the few, 100% POC-owned wine farms in Stellenbosch, Seven Sisters is a family-run winery built on a love of great wine, female empowerment, and the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like part of the family. Expect intimate tastings, paired menus, and stories poured just as generously as the wine.
As Donovan works his way through the range (strictly for research purposes, of course), Vivian shares the journey behind the label: her family roots, the vision that inspired Seven Sisters, and how determination helped turn a dream into one of South Africa’s most inspiring wine success stories.
Donovan’s Cape Town story continues. Follow Love Cape Town on socials to keep up with the journey.
