Get in touch with nature, learn and relax as you explore some popular green spaces in Cape Town.
In commemoration of Global Tourism Resilience Day, celebrated on February 17 to showcase the importance of sustainable and resilient tourism development on 17 February, here are some green spaces to visit:
SEED, Mitchells Plain
SEED is all about the belief that “everybody has the right to belong and thrive,” and they’re putting that into action with programmes aimed at creating stronger, more resilient communities. Based at the Rocklands Resilience Hub in Mitchells Plain, they’re on a mission to make a real difference. One of their cool innovative initiatives is the Food System Tour, which dives into the world of regenerative futures and shows people the magic of growing food the organic way.

The Company’s Garden
The Company’s Garden is a green gem in the heart of Cape Town, offering both a peaceful escape and a glimpse into the past. Originally started in the 1650s to grow fresh produce for passing ships, it now features a blend of nature and history. Located next to the South African National Gallery, the Iziko South African Museum, and the Houses of Parliament, it is a timeless oasis amid the city buzz.
Wander along its winding paths, relax under the shade of old trees with a picnic, or enjoy the colourful flower beds. The garden is a visual treat, filled with all kinds of interesting stories. Its statues, monuments, and historic buildings are quiet reminders of South Africa’s colonial history.

Oude Molen Food Garden
The Oude Molen Food Garden Village is a feel-good example of community spirit and sustainable living. What began as founder Jonno Kennedy’s passion project has grown into a bustling urban farm that not only provides fresh produce but also serves as a hub for education and healing. It’s a place where kids, young people, and even clients from the nearby psychiatric hospital can get hands-on experience and connect with nature.
Founded by Kennedy back in 2002, the garden is now looked after by Kelly and Mariette. It has since become a space where education, healing, and a stronger bond with nature come to life.
