Groot Constantia Wine Estate
Groot Constantia is a historical wine estate located in Cape Town, South Africa. It is the oldest working winery in the country, and today it operates as a museum and tourist destination. Visitors can take tours of the grounds, learn about the estate’s history, and enjoy tastings of the wines produced here.
Groot Constantia has a long and storied history, dating back to 1685 when it was founded by Dutch governor Simon van der Stel. For many years, the estate was one of the most productive and successful wine farms in the Cape Colony. However, it fell into decline in the early 20th century and was eventually abandoned. It wasn’t until 1969 that Groot Constantia was revived as a historical site and working winery.
Today, it is once again a popular destination for tourists and wine lovers alike. Visitors can take a educational tour of the estate to learn about the wine-making process, and sample some of the Estate’s wines. The estate also has a restaurant and a museum, which are both worth a visit.

Go on a fascinating journey through Cape Town’s rich history, all told through an impressive collection of art and artefacts acquired or donated over the years. 🖼️
The FREE exhibition is arranged around a central compass, which guides you north, south, east and west around the city and through its history. Fun for the whole family, view items like postal stones and water pipes that trace the city’s evolution.🧭
The exhibition is open from 9am to 3pm on weekdays, and closed on weekends and public holidays.

In celebration of Heritage Month this September, we are indulging in Cape Town’s delicious cuisine.🥘
Join us on a journey of taste to experience the Mother City’s diverse food culture.
This week, we learn more about Xhosa cuisine from Mzansi Restaurant’s head chef, Nontuthuzelo Siyo.👩🏾🍳
Joining her to learn more about the cuisine is @vos_james, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth and Tourism at the City of Cape Town.
The Langa restaurant was established in 2008 with the aim of “Sharing Mama’s Love”.
On the menu this week:
• Umngqusho (samp and beans)
• Umxhaxha (butternut and corn wrapped in aubergine)
• Umleqwa (free-range chicken)
• Isonka Samanzi (steamed bread)
• Chakalaka
You can sample these and a variety of other South African dishes at Mzansi. 😋
There is also entertainment experiences, including an African Marimba band playing indigenous, pop and jazz music while you learn the local dance, or gumboot dancing, face painting, drum circles, and township tours.🥁
Bookings are essential. Mzansi is not a walk-in restaurant.
