Greater Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve
The Greater Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve is a 200ha wetland, river system and estuary found near the popular Muizenberg on the False Bay Coast. Right next door to the thriving market towns of Kalk Bay and Simon’s Town, this Cape Town nature reserve is free to enter and is perfect for picnics, outings and birdwatchers.
It hosts a myriad of fauna and flora and operates an environmental education centre, with many endangered animal species finding refuge in its fish hatcheries and nurseries. One can take the 1.5km circular walk around what is considered the last functional estuary on this part of the coast, with information posters providing you with all you need to know in order to aid you in your sightings.
