Cape Town Diamond Museum
The only of its kind in Cape Town, the Cape Town Diamond Museum pays tribute to the world’s most precious gemstone, the diamond.
During a tour of the Cape Town Diamond Museum, you’ll witness a 3.3 billion year old story unfold as you’re taken through a diamond’s journey: from its creation at the core of the Earth, to the mine, and eventually, to the completed polished stone set in your precious jewellery creation.
Travel back in time and learn about one of the most significant happenings in South African history: the discovery of diamonds in Kimberley, and the subsequent Kimberley Diamond Rush. Hear all about the great names in diamond history such as the Oppenheimer family, and discover how South Africa became one of the world’s top diamond producing countries.
The Cullinan, The Hope, The Taylor-Burton… The names of some of the world’s most famous diamonds conjure images of incomparable beauty, fiery passion and deep mystery. While the world’s most famous, dazzling gems are often only part of private collections, its possible to see magnificent replicas.

Founded by Shimansky Cape Town Diamonds Museum is a non-profit organisation dedicated to educating and creating an appreciation for the world’s oldest and most beautiful gem.
