About the Area
The Cape Flats is a vast and sprawling area of land situated to the east of Cape Town. Once home to a vibrant community of fishermen, farmers and families, the Cape Flats was forcibly divided during the Apartheid era, with Black residents being relocated to townships such as Khayelitsha, Langa and Mitchell’s Plain.
Today, the Cape Flats is still often associated with it’s legacy of poverty, but there are many reasons to visit this fascinating part of Cape Town. The lively markets of Philippi, the Cape Flats offer a unique glimpse into the true culture and history of South Africa. And with plenty of parks and open spaces to enjoy, it’s easy to forget about the challenges faced by residents.
Whether you’re interested in politics, history or simply want to experience something different and authentic, a visit to the Cape Flats is sure to be an unforgettable experience and a real eye-opener in contrast to the luxurious experiences in the surrounding areas.

This Durban girlie is always chasing the next adventure, saying yes to new experiences and finding the magic in every moment. And where better to do that than the Mother City? 🌊⛰️
But even the biggest adventurers need a little R&R. After days of exploring the Mother City, Caitlin took some time to slow down and recharge at Radisson Collection Hotel, Waterfront Cape Town. 🧘🏽
Set on Cape Town’s Atlantic coastline near the V&A Waterfront, Radisson Collection Hotel, Waterfront Cape Town blends oceanfront serenity with contemporary design.
After checking in, she headed straight to the spa for a few hours of treatments, relaxation, and some much-needed quiet time.
“It was exactly what I needed. The perfect way to end the trip,” she says.

This Durban girlie is all about chasing thrills and saying “yes” to new adventures. And where better to do that than Cape Town? 🌊⛰️
Armed with running shoes and a sense of adventure, the content creator and runner is on a mission to uncover Mother City gems.
This week, Caitlin is learning how to make koesisters from Bo-Kaap Cooking Tour’s Zainie Misbach.
Caitlin joined Cape Town runner Liam Lategan to discover the story behind one of the Mother City’s most iconic sweet treats. A Sunday staple in many Cape Town homes, koesisters are a Cape Malay favourite, known for their warm spices, hints of naartjie peel and soft, doughnut-like texture.
She grew up eating koesisters in Durban, but had never made them herself… until now.
Caitlin’s Cape Town story continues. Follow Love Cape Town to see what she gets up to next. 👀
