Table Mountain is Cape Town’s most iconic attraction. The ride on the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is one you’ll never forget: it rotates 360° as it ascends, slowly revealing better and better views as you approach the summit. Everyone knows that it’s an essential stop on your Cape Town trip, but did you know about the amazing specials you can take advantage of? Read on to find out if you qualify for some serious savings!

The Student Special

Reward yourself for all the hard work with a discount on tickets and a meal special at the top! If you’re a registered student, age 18 or older, simply show your student card at the ticket office and you’ll pay R150 for a return ticket. For those who would prefer to hike up and take the Cableway down, get hold of a one-way ticket for just R80. If you feel hungry at the top, show your student ID again to enjoy a slice of pizza and a soft drink or juice for just R75.

The offer is not available online; you’ll need to show your student card in person at the Lower Cableway Station. It’s valid all year round for both local and international students.

Free Transport on the MyCiTi Shuttle

Get to the Lower Cable Station for free on the MyCiTi Shuttle! If you’re coming by car, park in the Lower Tafelberg Road parking lot. From there, you just need to hop aboard the 10 MyCiTi shuttle at the bus stop just opposite the parking lot. If you’re coming by bus or taxi, simply disembark at the Kloof Nek stop and then walk the short distance uphill to the MyCiTi stop. You do not need a MyCiTi myconnect card to use the free shuttle service. It operates daily from 7am in summer (7.30am in winter. The last shuttle leaves the Lower Cable Station at 7pm in summer (6.45pm in winter). Buses depart every 20 minutes.

The Birthday Special

Table Mountain is the gift that keeps giving! Get a free ride on the Cableway for your birthday. If you’re South African and over 18, present a valid South African ID on the day of your birthday and the week thereafter, and you’ll get one free adult return ticket. The Birthday Special allows everyone to enjoy Table Mountain at least once a year.

Free Audio Tours

There are two free VoiceMap audio tours available at Table Mountain. The first called Lower Cableway Station Audio Guide: In-Queue Entertainment, and the second is titled Upper Cableway Station Audio Guide: Tabletop Walking Tour. Both audio tours can be downloaded to your mobile device for free from the VoiceMap app, using the free WiFi at the Lower Cableway Station. The In-Queue Entertainment tour will keep you entertained with the stories and legends of Table Mountain while waiting in the queue at the Lower Cableway Station. The Tabletop Walking Tour is a GPS-guided walk around the top of the mountain, with local insights that play automatically when you reach various landmarks. The tour starts at the top of the mountain.

The Seniors Special

South African senior citizens over the age of 60 years qualify for discounts seven days a week. All you need to do is show a valid South African ID at the Lower Cableway Station. To sweeten the deal, there’s also a special pensioners’ meal available at the Table Mountain Café daily. You’ll only pay R100 for a return trip, or R50 for one-way.

A free guided walking tour

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway offers free walking tours which depart every hour from the Twelve Apostles Terrace. The 30-minute family friendly tours are offered daily between 9am and 3pm. Expert guides will take you on a short walk around the tabletop, introducing you to the fascinating history, geography, fauna, and flora that make this iconic attraction so special.

Unlimited access with a Cable Card

Enjoy year-round access to Table Mountain, discounts and more!If you plan to make your way up the mountain regularly, sign up for a Cable Card to save.  The card is valid for one year, and entitles you to as many visits to the Cableway as you like (limited to one return trip per day). It also gets you discounts on selected items at the Shop at the Top and the Table Mountain Café. Cards cost R750 for adults, R360 for kids, and R850 for an adult and child combo.
