Breakfasts for under R50 in Cape Town

Breakfast is an essential part of an active Cape Town day. This is a city that holds good food close to its heart, so there’s no shortage of places to get a good breakfast in Cape Town. Better still, you don’t have to dig deep into your pockets: there are places to suit any budget. Here are of our favourite places where you can get a great breakfast for under R50.

Arnold’s Restaurant, Gardens

Arnold’s has long been an institution among Cape Town locals. They’re widely known for their cheap-as-chips breakfasts, laid-back vibes and, of course, good coffee. If you’re there before 7am on a weekday, try the Early Bird Breakfast. It comes with two eggs, two rashers of bacon, two ostrich/pork chipolatas, fried tomato, toast and jam, and costs only R35. The Arnold’s Omelette is another favourite. For R45, try the Breakfast Lite: scrambled eggs on an English muffin, drizzled with basil pesto.

Kauai prides itself on serving up healthy, tasty food. They’re in many locations around the city, with slight variations to the menu. Grab a breakfast to go: try the Egg Hot Pot: a free range poached egg, sautéed mushrooms, rosa tomatoes, kale, pesto, feta, and parmesan. Add sautéed free range beef sausage, red pepper, and chipotle chili to the same meal. If you prefer not to have a cooked breakfast, the breakfast bowl with yoghurt, pineapple, strawberries, banana, almonds, honey, and chia seeds also comes in at R39.

Caffe Villagio, Milnerton

Grab the Villagio breakfast, which includes two eggs, bacon, fries, mushrooms, grilled tomato, and a slice of toast for R50. Breakfast is served all day!
