Table Mountain Aerial Cableway

The best views of Cape Town are from the Table Mountain Cableway, a unique and 87-year- old method of seeing the wonders of the city. Travel up to the summit of the majestic flat-topped mountain and be astounded by vistas of the Mother City, Robben Island and the Peninsula.

The ride is a gentle one, the rotating state-of-the-art cable car taking visitors from the lower station to the top in around 5 minutes. It operates seven days a week and trips occur within 10 to 15 minutes of each other. The time of the day’s last excursion varies throughout the year. Atop the mountain is a self-service buffet café while you can always pack a picnic and enjoy what still is part of a national park.

You will be 3,500ft above the city and here, in this unique location, you will find rock hyrax, lizards, butterflies and the odd porcupine. There is also a wide array of birdlife from eagles to sunbirds flying above great patches of fynbos, the Cape’s indigenous flora.

Highlights:

  • The journey is done at a gentle speed and takes around five minutes
  • The cable car is modern and rotates, giving you incredible views of the city as you make your way to the 3,500ft summit
  • Self-service buffet café at the top with space to picnic and a collection of assorted wildlife and flora
  • Wi-Fi lounge
