Shopping in Kalk Bay

If you really want to experience all that Kalk Bay offers and are shopping for unique and interesting items, we suggest you make a day of it.

Shopping in Kalk Bay can be equated to a visit to the Circus - and that is said in the nicest possible way.  It is colourful, quirky, full of surprises, often OTT and has its fair share of theatrical flair.

Start your meander along the Main Road at either end but make sure you get to do both sides and find time to explore the little lanes that run up from the Main Road on the mountainside.

Collectors have  a choice of rare books from Quagga Rare Books and Art, vintage furnishings from Railway House, old comic books from Kalk Bay Trading Post and if pockets are deep, a Kentridge or Beezy Bailey artwork from Kalk Bay Modern.

Visitors wanting souvenirs or trinkets to take back home can spend hours browsing and it is up those little lanes that real treasures can be found.  Memory Lane, or the Lane with no name will offer up beadwork, arts and crafts and jewellery that will fit snugly into your luggage.

With a number of galleries to choose from, you will find a collection of artworks in Kalk Bay that range from well established artists to those who are making a name for themselves - from etchings, to sculptures and ceramics.

Clothing ranges from the elegant to the quirky and if that is not enough, the choice of eateries along the Main Road require as much attention.  The iconic Brass Bell, right on Kalk Bay Station and literally on the water is great for that spot of lunch, as is Cape to Cuba with its wonderful decor or Kalky's down at the working harbour.

With so much to choose from, you are not likely to leave empty-handed.
