Cape Town has had a gin revolution, a whiskey movement and now it’s time for the world’s favourite party spirit to have its time to shine.

Tequila has had something of a resurgence in popularity worldwide and local distilleries have turned their hand toward making the agave-based spirit. While they can’t technically call it tequila—real tequila has to be produced in west Mexico—local producers are creating their own agave-based drinks with a local flavour.

The International Tequila Festival is a 3-day celebration of tequila in all its forms and the festival will feature over 30 different tequila, mezcal and agave drinks. The festival will be featuring local agave spirits such as Esperanza from Hope on Hopkins distillery and Leonista Karoo agave.

The experience will include masterclasses in the fine art of tequila cocktails, information about the production of agave and tequila and insights into the tequila industry. There will also be tequila and food pairings, chilli eating and Mexican cook-offs.

Of course, no tequila event would be complete without dancing – and the International Tequila Festival is pulling out all the stops to bring the party. Prime Circle, The Kiffness and Biggy lead the party and are admirably backed up by The Guy Is Alive, The Vanilla Colts, Upper Mill, Fusion Rhythm, Emma-Jean, Forest Key.

Sound like your sort of thing? It’s taking place on the 1-3 November 2019 at Hamilton Rugby Club and you can get more information and buy tickets online here.
