About the Cape Town Funny Festival
Cape Town’s best loved laugh-fest kicked off in 1997 as the country’s first comedy festival. Today it attracts the best comedic acts in the world. In the early years an unknown Jimmy Carr and Ross Noble graced the festival stages, and almost all of South Africa’s comedy icons have appeared at the festival at some point—Stuart Taylor, Kurt Schoonraad, Nik Rabinowitz, Marc Lottering, Riaad Moosa, and South Africa’s most famous export Trevor Noah, to name a few.
This year’s event will be opened by Her Royal Majesty the Queen’s impersonator, Australian actor and comedian, Gerry Connolly.
When is it happening
The festival takes place every year in winter. The 2018 dates for the Cape Town Funny Festival are 9 July to 5 August. There will be performances each night at 8pm, with some additional 5pm performances on weekends.
Check Webtickets for details on each performance.

The Baxter Theatre is lcoated in Rondebosch, just east of Cape Town’s City Bowl. It has played an important part in South Africa’s rich performing arts history, defying censorship during the Apartheid years by putting on sharp-edged, multi-racial performances. Today the Baxter continues this legacy by playing host to cutting-edge local and international productions, including drama, ballet, music, and comedy.
Tickets are available through Webtickets. Standard tickets cost R190, but there are generous discounts for group bookings through the Baxter Theatre ticket office.
