Sanbona Wildlife Reserve: The heart of the Little Karoo

At the foot of the towering Warmwaterberg Mountains, you’ll find Sanbona Wildlife Reserve. The reserve boasts an impressive 58 000 hectares of sculpted Cape Fold Mountains, wide-open Karoo plains, indigenous flora and fauna and rare examples of San rock art – some dating back more than 3500 years. Explore a “Big 5” wilderness sanctuary, raw nature and thrilling game drives – all just three hours from Cape Town. The vast landscapes, alluring stillness and luxurious lodges all play a part in what makes Sanbona special.

Thrilling game drives

Travel through the wild landscape with a qualified ranger in a comfortable open Land Cruiser. Game drives take place during the tranquil moods of sunrise and sunset where numerous species of plants, birds, big game and other animals can be seen. Guests are treated to a hot beverage during the sunrise game drives whilst sundowner evening drives offer spectacular displays of light as the sun sets over the Little Karoo.

Ancient rock art

Aside from the array of game and majestic landscapes, another of the exquisite attractions available at Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is the ancient rock art. With seven recorded rock-sites depicting the lives and spiritual beliefs of the San and Khoi-Khoi, this is some of the only evidence that remains of the people who lived in the area until 100 years ago.
