6 Reasons to Visit Table Mountain This Summer

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway

Table Mountain’s distinctive flat top is one of the first and last things you see when visiting the city. It towers over the city like a watchful, gentle giant. The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway is the best way to get to the top (or back down after a hike).

Read on to find out our top reasons to visit this iconic Cape Town attraction.

The Cableway Journey

The cable cars are the only ones of their kind in Africa. Thy run along cables from the Lower Cableway Station to the summit of Table Mountain, rotating as they climb. From the cars, you’ll get panoramic views of the mountain, harbour, and Robben Island. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that’s not to be missed. Return tickets are available, as well as one-way tickets for those who plan to hike one direction and ride the other.

Get tickets online to make sure you skip the queues at the ticket office!

The Views From the Top of Table Mountain

The views are one of the things that make Table Mountain so special. There are 360-degree views of the entire Cape Peninsula. You can see the stunning beaches around Clifton and Camps Bay, the Table Mountain range, the City Bowl, the harbour and Waterfront, and the unspolit wilderness of the Table Mountain National Park – all just by turning your head.

Great Food

The Table Mountain Cafe at the top is a great place to grab lunch. There are daily specials as well as self-service meals and snacks, which you can enjoy while you soak up the incredible vistas. They also do great breakfasts! Another option is the Wi-Fi Lounge, where you can catch up on emails and social media over a coffee and snack.

Free Tours

There are a number of free tour options to help you get the most out of your experience. Thirty-minute guided tours happen on the hour from 9am to 3pm daily. They are short, fun, family-friendly walks. For those who want more, you can discover the stories and legends of Table Mountain or experience the top of Table Mountain like never before with two free audio tours.

There is one tour to keep you entertained while you wait at the Lower Cableway Station, and a second that is a Tabletop Walking Tour.

Student Discounts for All Students

All students, both local and international, qualify for great Friday discounts on tickets! End the week on a high note. The offer is available to all students with a valid student card every Friday. Discounted tickets are not available online – get them from the ticket office at the Lower Cableway Station.

Amazing Deals for South Africans

If you’re from South Africa, you’re in luck! The birthday special allows all South Africans a free ride on their birthday. There is also a great senior citizen discount. Just remember to take along your South African ID to qualify for these deals.
