Propose and get married in Cape Town

To help you in your search for the perfect venue and the ideal spots to propose to your – hopefully – soon-to-be better half, we have selected some of our favourites.

Cape Town is one of the world’s most beautiful cities and we like to think we are one of the most romantic as well. The city has become a favourite wedding destination for domestic and international travellers, not surprising really when you consider the glut of awesome locations we have.

To help you in your search for the perfect venue and the ideal spots to propose to your – hopefully – soon-to-be better half, we have selected some of our favourites.

Few places on the planet can match the rugged, windswept beauty of Cape Point, the southern-most tip of Africa and few could trump it as a perfect spot to ask for your partner’s hand in marriage. If you want a jaw-dropping backdrop, take her on a hike before popping the question, or why not bend a knee at Diaz Beach? You could even go for a public proposal at the Two Oceans Restaurant with champagne on hand to celebrate.

Cape Point Steps

Arguably the most iconic location in the Mother City, Table Mountain is perfect for proposals. There are plenty of places you can drop down on one knee and if you time it properly, you can get the sunrise – or alternatively sunset depending on your preference – to add to the big moment.

Another spot with few rivals when it comes to natural beauty, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens’ rolling lawns, myriad of winding paths beneath the trees and quiet secluded spots dotted all over make it the perfect place to pop the question. Then, of course, you could go the aerial route and do it on the Boomslang canopy walk… just make sure you don’t fumble the ring in the all the excitement!

South Africa’s oldest wine estate, Groot Constantia, is also one of the most beautiful with the Dutch Manor House adding a distinct sense of history to the grounds. Head out to the estate under the guise of a wine tasting or cellar tour, wait for her to be lulled by the fantastic blends, before WHAM! You hit him or her with the grand proposal! … and the best chardonnay in the world! Boom!

Robben Island is one of the country’s most iconic heritage sites and what better place to bust out a line like “I am a prisoner of your love, will you be my warden for life?” Okay, so maybe don’t lead with that, but Robben Island has a rich history and is an emotional spot, particularly for South Africans, making it a beautiful and unique place to start your new life together.

Now that you’ve popped the question, your next step, of course, is where you’re getting married. Cape Town is one of the most popular cities on the planet to take the plunge and here are my top 10 wedding venues.
