Fish on the Rocks

Fish on the Rocks is steeped in history, having opened in 1951 as a fisherman’s supply store that was turned into today’s restaurant around 30 years ago. You can expect to wait in lines for affordable meals of battered hake and calamari, delectable prawns, and classic fried chips, traditionally served with salt, vinegar, lemon and tartar sauce.

Surrounded by the attractions of Hout Bay, Fish on the Rocks is a humble takeaway restaurant that draws out a melting pot of guests, ranging from locals to tourists, school groups to old-age homes, families and friends, and even the occasional celeb. It’s open 365 days a year (10h00 – 20h00 in winter, 10h00 – 21h00 in summer), and has proven quite a popular lunch spot for Christmas and New Years Day.
