Afrogem

Trendsetting, innovative, forward thinking, Afrogem Jewellers is loved by jewellery addicts the world over. Conveniently located on Buitengracht Street, halfway between the Waterfront and the Cable Car Station, it’s Cape Town’s go-to for luxury shopping when going up or coming down the mountain, and at any other time that grabs you.

The Afrogem Jewellery Creation Tour is unique in a Cape Town. Here’s why:
When the Afrogem Jewellery Creation Tour started in 1983, it created a bridge between consumer knowledge and industry expertise, giving jewellery buyers the opportunity to observe skilled professionals at work for the first time in South Africa.
The complimentary tour takes you through Afrogem’s 500sqm production studios. It’s the only tour in Cape Town where you can witness, firsthand, all three jewellery-manufacturing processes: handcrafting to create one-of-a-kind jewellery; CAD, which utilises state-of-the-art computers and 3D printers; and lost wax casting. The energy of Cape Town’s rich history of artisinal jewellery fabrication pulses through the Afrogem studios. Their goldsmiths are the heirs of a superb artistry, passed down through generations. This craftsmenship, combined with the creative flair of their revolutionary designers, brings a synergy of high-end skills to their jewellery. Afrogem pieces are international and on-trend…with a distinctive African twist. The tour concludes in their stylish showroom, which includes a design station where you can consult with one of Afrogem’s creatives or knowledgeable sales staff. Ring prototypes and a rainbow smorgasbord of sparkling gems, with almost every precious and semi-precious stone and cut available, make the design station a particularly wonderful experience. You can select designs and try different precious metals and stones against your skin tone, to create unique, personal pieces that speak to your soul.

If you’re after something rare, and uniquely African, think Tanzanite.
Found in a single location at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, tanzanite is thought to be 1000 times rarer than diamonds. Afrogem’s superlative collection of tanzanite jewellery and loose stones offers buyers of this gem something even rarer: choice. From polished tanzanite set in a range of golds, to rough uncut gems set in silver. Afrogem supports the local economy by using only South African gold. All gemstones are sourced from reputable mines to ensure the stones are ethically-mined and conflict free. Buying from Afrogem guarantees you gemstone clarity and a clear conscience.

Put a ring on it, even if you’re in the Mother City for just a couple of days.
Tourists to city needn’t feel like they don’t have options when it comes to fulfilling their jewellery fantasies. Afrogem has the fastest turnaround time in Cape Town on luxury jewellery created to international standards. It’s a service they can offer because their production studios are onsite. Buyers are limited only by their imagination… and their high-tech creative team can help you with that.
The tour takes around 20 minutes, but if you’re looking to buy, set aside at least 45 minutes to take advantage of the design station and on-hand expertise. As the security of their clientele is paramount, the tour is by appointment only. Bookings can be made through most guesthouses, hotels and tour companies operating in the city.
