The Halala Africa Show!

The Music! The Stories! The Cuisine!

Next Show: Friday, 19 August, 7pm.

Situated in the beautiful venue, Novalis Ubuntu Institure, the Halala Africa Show is a two-hour journey through the soaringly beautiful music produced in South Africa from the 1960s to the present day. With people just raving in the reviews, you are in for a great evening! The Music: Working only with musicians from previously disadvantaged areas, the genres featured include folk, jazz, rock and pop from musicians like Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Johnny Clegg, Vicky Sampson, eVoid, Springbok Nude Girls, Freshly Ground and more. All pumped out by an 8 piece band: drums, bass, keyboard, guitars, sax and penny whistle. The Legends: The Halala Africa Show also tells sad, happy, funny and often staggering stories around that music, narrated by the story-telling maestro producer, with animated audio-visuals. For example, how did the Apartheid government completely misunderstand the Meadowlands song with hilarious results. Or why is there a band Called Springbok Nude Girls? Why wasn’t Bright Blue arrested for playing banned music? The Cuisine: The night is rounded off with servings of the most famous South African cuisine, served tapas-style, in a taste-bud dazzling five-course meal. Meals include dishes like bobotie, pap en sous, braaied snoek, vetkoek and mince, koeksisters and malva pudding.
