It’s not Christmas in Cape Town until the carols by candlelight lights up the lawns at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. The Kirstenbosch carols are one of the most popular festive season events in Cape Town, and they’re sure to get you into the spirit of Christmas! It’s has been a local tradition for over 20 years now, organised annually by the Rotary Club as part of the organization’s yearly fundraising efforts.
When
The event marks the beginning of the festive season in December every year. In 2018, the Kirstenbosch Carols will take place from 13 to 16 December, with the concerts beginning at 6pm.
The Venue
This is your chance to sing along to your all-time favourite Christmas carols in a stunning setting at the foot of Table Mountain National Park.The annual Kirstenbosch Carols by Candlelight are held at the beautiful Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. The gardens are contain more than 7,000 plant species, almost all of which are part of the indigenous Cape Floral Kingdom. It is also also home to a natural ampitheatre and lawn, which is where the carols take place.
The Vibe
Expect all things Christmassy! Don your festive hats and enjoy a line-up of local entertainment before the carols session. Carolers can expect to sing along to traditional Christmas songs including Silent Night and Jingle Bells among others, performed by Cape Town Concert Brass and the Cape Town Male Voice Choir.
