International Acts in Cape Town in 2017

The Mother City is a favourite arena for some of the biggest names in music to perform. A who’s who of performers have graced the city’s shores over the years and 2017 is no different.

The five concerts in Cape Town not to miss in 2017

David Guetta and Martin Garrix

Two of the biggest names in dance music, David Guetta and Martin Garrix will headline the 2017 Ultra music festival. Garrix performed at the festival in 2014 and 2015, before taking a break from appearing last year, but he is back by popular demand. Guetta, meanwhile, has not played in South Africa in over five years, but makes a very welcome return to the festival’s new venue at the Cape Town Stadium.

With the looming backdrop of Table Mountain and support from local rock legends, the Springbok Nude Girls, The Pixies will ‘Rock on the Lawns’ with anthems like Gigantic, Where is My Mind, Debaser setting the tone.

The Vamps

One of the UK’s biggest exports, The Vamps will be performing in Cape Town for the first time this year. With five top 10 hits and close to 2-million YouTube subscribers, The Vamps are quickly becoming one of the biggest acts of the new generation of performers. Having already partnered with some of the most popular artists in the world, the British group is ready to take the Mother City by storm.

The Lumineers

When the American folk rockers last played to a Cape Town crowd, they promised a new album next time around, and they proved true to their word with their return trip forming part of their ‘Cleopatra’ tour. And while it took four years for the new album, it does not disappoint, with their second offering charting at the top of the Billboard Top 200. The Lumineers were blown away by the support from the Mother City faithful when they played Kirstenbosch Gardens last time around and the new venue at Green Point Park will no doubt provide the perfect backdrop for their music.

Justin Bieber

You don’t get much bigger than Justin Bieber.

The pop superstar has reinvented himself since his debut album seven years ago, but what has not changed is his massive popularity. The pop heartthrob sold out on his last tour of the Mother City in 2013 and the website crashed when tickets went on sale late last year for his return visit.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for any extra tickets doing the rounds.
