Yes, you read that right. Drive-in cinema is coming back to Cape Town. For some, it’s something their parents speak about when taking trips down memory lane. But now everyone gets to experience this exciting blast from the past. Mother City Drive-in is expected in Cape Town as soon as lockdown regulations permit.
What’s it about?
Mother City Drive-in is the brainchild of Lyle Masters and Sean Binder from Cape Town. Mother City Drive-in will allow patrons to have a sense of normality when it comes to socialising and attending events without getting into close contact. A drive-in provides the perfect solution to our current social distancing needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When and where?
A launch date has not yet been finalised. Mother City Drive-in are waiting on government to ease certain regulations and restrictions. The plan is to be up and running by July/August 2020.
Mother City Drive-in will operate at chosen locations for limited periods at a time before moving to a new area.

Apart from showcasing a variety of different movies, you can also expect live comedy shows, live music concerts, theatre, and more! Mother City Drive-in will offer a platform for artists to showcase their talents.

Strict safety and security protocols will be in place as per city and government regulations. Mother City Drive-in will adhere to strict social distancing regulations. You won’t be allowed outside your vehicle unless you need the bathroom. Simply turn on your car’s hazard lights to indicate this need. An usher wearing PPE will escort you to the nearest bathroom on site.
