Djembe drumming in Cape Town

Djembe drums are hourglass-shaped, hide-covered drums with a distinctive African sound. The drums have their origins in West Africa, and the name apparently comes from the Bambara saying “Anke djé, anke bé”: a call for everyone to assemble in peace. That’s what djembe drumming is all about: unity. Djembe drumming happens in groups, and it’s about coming together. It’s also a great way to meet and connect with people, and learn a little about the African heritage of this important instrument. Here are a few places you can join in the fun and dance to the beat of your own drum.
