Cape Town Electronic Music Festival: All you need to know

The Cape Town Electronic Music Festival (CTEMF) is a sonic treat for music-lovers. It was established in 2012, and has fast gained recognition and one of the most relevant and forward-thinking events on Africa’s music festival calendar. It takes place in Atlantic Studios just 15 minutes from the Cape Town City Bowl. International pioneers and innovators share the stage with the best of the South African electronic scene. There are few other festivals that boast such diverse audiences, along with such an acclaimed line-up.

When

The 2019 event takes place on one night only: 9 February. Mark it down in your diary and get your tickets now!

The venue

In previous years, CTEMF took place in the Cape Town City Hall, but in 2018 it moved to a fantastic new venue in Milnerton. Atlantic Studios, for the rest of the year, functions as a fully fledged film studio. The result is a modern and minimalist setting with plenty of space to get into the groove. Expect multiple stages, impressive lights, and most importantly, serious sound.

The artists

The 2018 edition of CTEMF brought us one of the most impressive line-ups to date, including nine big international names. LA hip hop and dnace superstar Egyptian Lover was a highlight, and Amsterdam-based deep house legend Job Jobse kept the party going on the last night, along with Swiss legend Deetron.

Here is the full line-up for the 2019 festival:

BROKEN TRANSIENT / CODY MEYER / CORNELIUS VS DWSON / CRAIG PLACID VS TERRY ARONIS / DEANO / DEEP AZTEC / DOOWAP / ED HARRIS / FAKA / FKA MASH / FOGSHOW VS STAB VIRUS / KAROO / KEVIN MURNING / KUSUSA / KYLE RUSSOUW / MICHAEL BHATCH / MORENA LERABA / MUZI / PATTY MONROE / PAZ SHINA / PHAT JACK / QUEEZY / ROASTIN’ RECORDS / ROSIE PARADE / SANETRAN / SHANE EAGLE / SI’NOIR / THIBO TAZZ / THREE WITCHES / THOR RIXON / UNCOOL LUKE / WELCOME PARK

Workshops

An important part of the annual CTEMF proceedings is the workshops. The 2018 dates are 7 and 8 February. The programme includes discussions, interactive creative sessions, talks, and a showcase open to any music makers and artists.

Workshops are free, but you will need to RSVP via the Facebook page to confirm your attendance.

Outreach

When you attend the festival, you can rest assured that you’re contributing to a great cause. CTEMF Connect is focused on socio-economic empowerment through opportunities in electronic music. Each year, a group of South African future musical stars undergo an extensive program of training, aimed at building the skills and insight required for a successful career in music. Experts ion marketing, photography, social media and the industry as a whole connect with these young artists to kick-start their career.
