Cape Town a great place for digital nomads

“Remote working is the future,” according to bigseventravel.com and Cape Town has been listed among the best cities in the world for digital nomads.

“Our core data of affordability and internet access has been gathered from the folks over at Nomad List with many other variables taken into account, including countries which offer specific Digital Nomad visas, and where to find the coolest co-working spaces and expat friendly communities,” the site says.

Remote Working Campaign

“I am excited to launch the Digital Nomad Remote Working campaign for Cape Town. We are seeing innovation within the Tourism sector to accommodate the changed behaviour of remote working by offering affordable long-term stays including other benefits required to work remotely. Cape Town is rated amongst the best Remote Working destinations in the world. We will roll out an extensive marketing campaign through the City’s Enterprise and Investment Department together with Cape Town Tourism by amplifying the remote work opportunity in all our international key source markets as well as domestic markets. With people working from home during this pandemic, this concept has become a much-needed escape and great opportunity to take work on a holiday. Digital nomads are a new kind of tourist that will benefit our visitor economy. This will help with economic recovery and readines as we build back better particularly in the hard-hit tourism and hospitality sectors,” says Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities at the City of Cape Town.

All about the atmosphere

Cape Town came in at number 42 on the list of 50 best places for remote working. “Despite having a few drawbacks, Cape Town boasts an incredibly connected expat and digital nomad scene from all corners of the globe.”

The Mother City’s incredible scenery, however, is a drawcard for many. “Situated right on the water, surrounded by mountains and chockfull of colourful markets and quirky neighbourhoods, Cape Town is all about the atmosphere.”

The downsides include internet connectivity and safety concerns. Cape Town Tourism has partnered with the safety app Namola to give visitors the assistance they need at the push of a button. Namola is an app that pinpoints your location, immediately gives you an emergency operator to talk to, and gets you the help you need and does so speedily. Download Namola.
