A guide to the Ramadan Safari Stays:
Pre-fast meal (Suhoor)
Guests awake and are served a pre-dawn continental breakfast (Suhoor) before their long day of fasting begins.
Aquila have upgraded and refurbished their on-site prayer room which includes a wudu facility, dividers, prayer mats and a Quran. The facility is available to all guests throughout their stay. Should the facility be full, guests are welcome to pray in the conference room, the old reception area, in their rooms or even at the scenic grass area outside overlooking the mountains.
After the first prayer of the day, guests can enjoy an early morning open-vehicle safari game drive out into the wilderness where they will be able to get up, close and personal with Africa’s Big Five – elephant, leopard, rhino, buffalo and lion. There are also hippos, springboks, ostriches, wildebeests, zebras and more at the 10,000-hectare reserve.
If you are looking for something a little more adventurous, you could always enjoy the safari on horseback or even on a quad bike to make things a little more interesting.
Aquila’s luxurious spa facilities are all the spoiling, pampering and serenity you’ll need to keep your body glowing and relaxed throughout the day. Their spa facilities include: an indoor heated pool, steam room, sauna, relaxation area, outdoor pool, nail bar and Zen garden. The spa uses natural products which are free from petrochemicals, synthetic ingredients, colourants and preservatives.
Guests can also enjoy other activities including a dip in the pool which overlooks the stunning mountain views, curio shop, library, conference centre and of course the children’s entertainment area which includes a mini-golf course, a sandpit and a wooden playground. There are also daily kiddie activities and a Junior Ranger Programme.
Once the sun sets in and it is time for Iftar, a snack platter and water will be served to guests in their rooms. The platter includes dates, seasonal fruit and savouries.
After the sunset prayer (Maghrib), guests will be able to enjoy a buffet feast at the overnight restaurant.
Should guests wish to attend the Ramadan ritual prayers (Tarawih) after supper, they can request an optional transfer to the Touws River Mosque which is only 12km (10-minute drive) away.
Guests can then conclude their evening with an after-dinner stargazing session before heading to their luxurious accommodation amenities for a good night’s rest as more adventures await them in the morning.
