Capetonians are so used to running, mountain biking, hiking, surfing and swimming that the lockdown has been a bit of a shock to the system. The UK has Joe Wicks to help them out and, thankfully, South Africa is jam-packed full of fitness fanatics who can give the Body Coach a run for his money.
Here are some locals who are motivating and inspiring the nation to work out while they’re at home.
Mapule Ndhlovu
Mapule Ndhlovu is one of the country’s favourite fitness freaks. Here this certified personal fitness trainer shares a home workout that can be done with just a single chair. Judging by the comments, even Rachel Kolisi is loving it!
Richard-Dean Sumares
Richard-Dean’s Crawl Project focuses more on mobility and movement than on traditional strength training. Expect a mix of yoga, jiu-jitsu and movement exploration—and he’s also available for online coaching during the quarantine period.
Monique Lopes
This online health and fitness coach has at-home routines specifically tailored for the lockdown period. If you’re looking for short routines that hit every part of the body then check out her page.
Rushda Moosajee
Nobody can say that the infamous Rushtush doesn’t know her audience. With a badass fitness routine and an attitude to match, Rushda has taken the local fitspo scene by storm. She’s also recently launched a fitness app with a 14-day free trial—just in time for the lockdown!
The Grind Gym
Have some equipment at home but lacking the discipline to use it? The Grind Gym has short workouts on its page and a live online kettlebell class every Saturday to make sure you don’t just snack your way through quarantine.
