Cape Town Winter Campaign

To keep the winter blues at bay in 2009, Cape Town Tourism launched a winter campaign reminding Capetonians and tourists alike that there is still plenty to do in the Mother City in the cooler months.
Compared to many other cities (especially those in the northern hemisphere), Cape Town has a moderate climate – it’s not often that Capetonians have to put on more than an extra jersey or two. The Cape does, however, get its rain in the wintertime, which can put a bit of damper on sightseeing plans.
Nevertheless, the beautiful Mother City has such a range of exciting things to do and places to go that you will never struggle to find something fun and interesting to do – no matter the weather!
Cape Town Tourism’s fabulous winter specials and two exciting winter competitions ensured that no one was left out in the cold.
Another reason why Cape Town is cool in winter
Our first competition asked you to tell us why Cape Town is cool in winter – in no more than 140 characters. Entries poured in via email, Facebook and Twitter, and were judged on their originality.
Edward Babb won the competition for his creative entry: “Mist plays on mntn peaks, cool sea spray flecks my cheeks, billowed clouds & azure light, Cape Town in winter, whattasight.”
He won an Acer notebook worth R2 500 for his efforts.
Cape Town. Live it. Love it. Winter Flickr competition
Anyone passionate about photography who has been lucky enough to visit the Mother City will tell you that Cape Town is a photographer’s dream – which made Cape Town Tourism’s winter Flickr competition a fantastic one to enter!
Keith Lyle’s winter pic of Kalk Bay harbour in a storm won him an iPod Nano.

Upload your photos to Flickr and add them to the Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group. Please tag them with "Winter".
