Stand-up and stand-out – All-star line-up for Cell C SA Lingerie Fashion Show proudly sponsored and presented by Canal Walk and in aid of breast cancer awareness

 One of the highlights of the South African fashion industry’s social calendar is undoubtedly the Cell C SA Lingerie Fashion Show proudly sponsored and presented by Canal Walk.  This year will be no different with a bevy of beautiful stars joining in the style and fun to light up the Centre Court on Thursday 6th October 2016.  In support of breast cancer awareness once again and more specifically, The Pink Drive, the show’s styling will play homage to a woman’s many facets through the #WarriorWomen theme.

“There is a serious message behind the day’s festivities. Cell C supports a number of initiatives aimed at supporting breast cancer survivors.  Aside from this event, we are also involved in others projects such as the Cell C Playing for Pink Polo which raises much-needed funds for Reach for Recovery’s Ditto Project,” says Suzette van der Merwe, Managing Executive of the Cell C Foundation.

“The event also aligns with our sponsorship of the Miss South Africa pageant and other programmes making a difference in the lives of young women.

Tribal, botanical, beautiful birds, dreamcatcher, wildlife, precious metals and pure goddess, as well as a scene that speaks to our ‘connected’ world, are aspects that will be explored in the show.  This is bang on trend with what is happening worldwide, where lingerie details have also made it out of the underwear department to being incorporated into day and evening wear ensembles.  Think soft and sheer feminine fabrics that float and encase the form, enhanced with a subtle hint, or full-on froth of lace, elegantly adorning luxurious intimates.

The melding of different textiles is also a key trend for the upcoming season, where Lycra and lace converge or innovative techniques with hemp are explored.  While flower power has been liberated with a whole new bigger bolder take on the floral kingdom, the colour palette is varied, melding bolder statements with more delicate hues.  Sports lingerie also gets its place in the sun with wider straps and more padding for comfort, to assist today’s active woman.

Gracing the ramp at this year’s show, and presenting just what we all have to look forward to for the season ahead, will be Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, Miss South Africa 2016 whose photo shoot for the 2016 SA Lingerie magazine perfectly depicts the warrior nature of the show, while still emphasising her feminine side.  Joining her is Bonang Matheba, ambassador for Woolworth’s own lingerie line and Juliet Godwin, this year’s SA Lingerie Cover Girl winner as well as a host of other local ladies who are keen to support the cause and show their style.

But it’s not just the ladies that will entertain the VIP guests and spectators at the glamorous affair. Richard Stirton, winner of The Voice SA 2016, will also be on hand to showcase his lyrical styling, including his debut release What Tears Me Most and some of the popular covers that saw him go onto win the coveted title.

“This year’s show really has the WOW factor,” commented Aletha Carswell, Creative Director at Netsport Media, organisers of the show. “This is the fourth year we are staging this event at Canal Walk Shopping Centre and we are delighted that we are able to showcase these amazing trends to a growing audience every year, as well as the core message that women are beautiful, inside and out, no matter who they are, where they come from or what challenges they face.”

Echoing this sentiment, CWSC’s Marketing Manager Vanessa Herbst, highlighted the charitable aspect of the event, which is an important consideration for Canal Walk in everything they do: “This is the second year that we have partnered with The Pink Drive as we wanted to continue supporting an initiative that does much to educate and drive awareness around women’s health issues, in particular breast cancer.

“Linking this lingerie show to a cause such as breast cancer, serves to reinforce the notion that inside each and everyone of us is a goddess with the self esteem to stand up and stand out, we couldn’t be more delighted to once again sponsor this key event.”

The show starts at 20H30 but spectators are encouraged to appreciate the pre-show entertainment from 19H30.  The show is free of charge to spectators.
