New Year's Eve in Cape Town: 2018/2019
We can’t believe it… 2018 is almost over and it’s time to start planning our NYE celebrations. We’ve cherry-picked some of the coolest things happening in Cape Town this 2018/2019 New Year’s Eve.
They’re broken down by category for ease of reference, so whether you’re looking for a real bender, a kid-friendly activity, or a classy dinner, there’s something for you! The V&A Waterfront
The Waterfront is a category of its own. Expect pop-up performances, fun characters and delicious food in all the main areas throughout the night. There’s also plenty to keep kids occupied, and the V&A kids crew will be handing out location assist bracelets to you and your children to aid with kids safety on the busy property.
This year the theme is all about celebrating MOTHER EARTH so be sure to bring your love and peace as we get down with being festive and having fun all the way to our fantastic fireworks at midnight. Apart from the fabulous Earth floats – don’t forget to keep your eyes peeled for some of the Mother Earth pop up performances such as the beautiful Tree Opera singer, Our Mother Earth singing divas, The Fab 4 Acapella group, our magical Earth Nymphs and Tree Spirits, Nomadic Orchestra and all the other incredible music and wonderful Earth characters in between. The Mother Earth NYE celebration parade Startsat 6pm at the Flagpole courtyard and the entertainment continues till midnight.
New Year’s Eve Dinner
Located at the Alphen Boutique Hotel in Constantia, Blanko is offering a fine-dining experience to kick off the new year. The mouth-watering menu for this year’s celebrations includes aged ribeye, seabass, and a gorgeous asparagus risotto, followed by sweet treats such as gelato and orange marmelade cheescake.
Benguela Cove, Hermanus
Dress smart for Benguela Cove’s sophisticated New Year’s Eve party. Dance the night away under the stars while feasting on delicious platters and canapes. A DJ and cash bars will be available to greet 2019 in style. Enjoy a glass of their newly released MCC at midnight, to toast 2019 and all it will bring.
HQ, City Bowl
HQ is hosting their annual NYE bash, and this year’s theme is “HEAVEN NYE”. Dress all in white, and wine and dine to the tunes of some of the hottest local DJs.
The Village Idiot, City Bowl
Put on your finest feathers and kick up dust with Oskar, Gerry Liberty, and DJ Gerald Kallis at this masquerade-themed soiree in the heart of the city. Expect a spectacular three-course meal, along with a glass of bubbly on arrival and at midnight.
New Year’s Eve Parties
Alcazar New Year’s Eve, Gardens
Alcazar is the ultimate Inner City Cape Town New Year’s Eve celebration. The indoor/outdoor venue at the foot of Table Mountain will feature two stages and 12 hours of music and performance art. The outdoor stage is a work of art: a 3D printed and video-mapped building facade of an Arabian fortress. Here, fire dancers will light up the night sky as deep tech house keeps you on your feet. Inside, an electric ballroom of booming tunes and avant garde performance art will await you. The theme for the evening is “Arabian Nights”, so dress up! No under 20s are allowed, and VIP tickets are available for those who want a truly pimped out experience.
Harringtons, East City
If you’re looking for something a little different, Harringtons’ Bubbles & Burlesque New Year is the place to be. There will be carefully created cocktails, delicious canapés, floating style dinner and Titillating Burlesque Performance! Dress to impress, and enjoy an evening of amazing entertainment.
Long Street, City Bowl
Long Street is a party of its own. Every year as midnight approaches, people stream into the area. By midnight, it’s like a pot that has boiled over. There are so many bodies partying on the tarmac that cars can’t get through. It’s a loud, crowded, sweaty affair, and it’s a lot of fun if that’s what you’re into. Pro-tip: book a table at a bar with a balcony (Like Tjing Tjing, The Grand Daddy, Beerhouse, the Waiting Room, or SGT Pepper) so that you can watch the jubilant mess without having to actually be in it. If you hit Long Street, remember you’re going to have a long wait for cabs. Consider booking accommodation nearby.
Kinky Summer NYE Festival, Franschhoek
Kinky Summer takes place outside the city in a lush paradise… expect a place where imagination and whimsical delight are cherished and nurtured. New Year’s Eve is a sacred celebration here, and there will be dancing, love, and light.
Shimmy Beach Club, V&A Waterfront
Shimmy is one of the most highly anticipated NYE parties in town, and this year they’re collaborating with Blue Marlin Ibiza to bring the essence of Ibiza to Cape Town. See in 2019 to the sounds of Camilo Franco (Ibiza), Andy Baxter (Ibiza), DEAN FUEL, and Naceta (Ibiza). This event is all about glamour and class, with dancers and performers flown in from Ibiza. Book a VIP ticket to access a separate VIP entrance, VIP bathrooms, ample unreserved seating, and roaming waiters.
Family Friendly New Year’s Eve
Kirstenbosch – Jeremy Loops
The Kirstenbosch Summer Concert series is in full swing by December, and it peaks on New Year’s Eve with live music by the local act, Jeremy Loops. This is summer music; dancing music. Bring a picnic, kick off your shoes, and dance the warm evening away. Kids are welcome.
Cape Point Vineyards
Cape Point Vineyards is playing host to the Grand South NYE 2018, with DJ Rene the Frenchman. The theme is “disco”, and there are prizes for the best-dressed so go all out! The venue features a big hall, with rolling lawns overlooking a dam. It’s great for kids, and there are play facilities there. They’ll also have food stalls and plenty of Cape Point Vineyards wine on offer.
Café Roux, Noordhoek
Start the evening off with a welcome G&T, and then enjoy a relaxed 3-course meal with family & friends under the bedouin tent. DJ Frank will welcome 2019, so expect a pumping dancefloor. The event starts at 7pm and music will go on until 2am.
Delvara Farm, Stellenbosch
Here’s another great family-friendly option for the more active among you. Bring picnic baskets and walking shoes and enjoy the full moon on a beautiful hiking trail through the vineyards. The main route is 9,75km, but farm vehicles are available to transport children and elderly hikers to the start of the shorter 4,5km route at the famous Pepper Tree from where it will take about 30 minutes to the top.
