If there is one thing Capetonians are good at – other than socialising, of course – it’s braaing.

Helderberg Farm, Somerset West
Situated in the picturesque Helderberg region, this farm not only offers picnic and braai facilities but also a host of activities for the whole family. These include gravel karts, laser shooting, strawberry picking and mountain biking.
Miller’s Point, Simon’s Town
An excellent spot for the family. Portable and gas braais are welcome, and there’s also a tidal pool for the children, excellent snorkeling and a boat launching slipway.
Mzoli’s Place, Gugulethu
Great music, expertly braaied meat and a vibrant township vibe make Mzoli’s Place in Gugulethu a Capetonian favourite.
Die Strandloper Restaurant, Langebaan
The aromatic fish braai at this coastal restaurant in Langebaan is worth the drive. Try the angel fish, snoek, crayfish, freshly baked bread and more. The moerkoffie (very strong traditional coffee) and company aren’t too bad either!
Oude Molen Eco Village, Pinelands
A working model of a sustainable eco-village is home to artists, woodworkers and music studios. There’s also a recreational area with braai facilities and a swimming pool.
aMadoda Braai, Woodstock
A vibey urban destination with live music and an eclectic crowd, aMadoda is the City Bowl’s answer to township living.
Waves lapping gently on the sandy shore, a bevy of beauties on parade and several wonderfully maintained braai areas make Oudekraal a must.

A delight for the whole family with braai facilities, swimming pools, water slides, mini-golf and giant chess.
Eerste Steen Resort, Bloubergstrand

Soetwater gets its name from the many fresh water pools that form on the coastal terraces after good rains. Take in local fynbos, watch Grysbok antelope at play and swim in one of two tidal pools. Braai facilities are located in designated areas within the resort.
Silvermine Nature Reserve, a majestic part of the Table Mountain National Park, is a great place to visit as it offers bike trails, hikes and birdwatching, as well as picnic facilities. In summer, the braai facilities aren’t as many as in winter so get there early to grab a spot! It’s a sublime and family friendly adventure into nature.

Between Clifton’s Fourth Beach and Glen Beach, are these astonishingly beautiful vistas of Camps Bay, Table Mountain and the 12 Apostles mountain range. Braai and picnic facilities are available, and you can also catch a tan while chilling on the boulders around the cove whilst the kids splash around in the shallows.
Cape Point National Park
Get your Capetonian fix of sunshine, sea and mountainscapes at Buffels Bay and Bordjiesdrif in the Cape Point National Park Reserve. Boasting beautiful beaches, tidal pools safe for swimming and grassy braai and picnic spots, then this is the spot if you like a great view while you enjoy your meal. Watch out for the Chacma baboons and whatever you do don’t feed them!
Kogel Bay Resort
Located between Gordon’s Bay and Rooi Els, Kogel Bay Resort is a great beach-side braai spot. The area is surrounded by fynbos and getting there is half the fun as the journey takes you along Clarence Drive which provides amazing views of the False Bay coastline. You can even camp here for the night.
