Breakfast, they say, is the most important meal of the day and Cape Town has no shortage of breakfast spots that don’t break the bank. Here are a few of the best, affordable places to grab a quick bite before work.

Breakfast is high on most people’s morning ritual to-do list, especially with a long working day ahead. As with most cities, Cape Town’s city centre is abuzz with people on their way to work, but seeing as most Capetonians are foodies at heart, there are loads of breakfast spots that serve up delicious breakfast foods from the crack of dawn. Here are a couple of the best, yet affordable breakfast spots.

Arnold’s Restaurant

Arnold’s has long been an institution among Cape Town locals, and they’re especially known for their cheap-as-chips breakfasts, laid-back vibes and, of course, good coffee. Their Early Bird Breakfast for R23 is the way to go.

Clarke’s Dining Room

Popular with locals for its hip (but not too hipster) vibe, the main attraction at Clarke’s is undoubtedly their food, especially breakfast, which is served all day. Head on over between 8 – 9am and catch their breakfast special of eggs, toast and a coffee for R30.

For breakfast with a view, Knead at Muizenberg is arguably one of the best spots in Cape Town, and also one of the best bakeries. During the week they’re buzzing with surfers heading to work after a quick ‘dawnie’ and over the weekend it’s packed with beach goers. Their delectable French toast is a firm favourite.
