An active, outdoor lifestyle is relatively easy to achieve in Cape Town, considering its abundant natural appeal and beautiful setting.

Absolute adventure

With beautiful mountains, beaches and more than 3 000 hours of sunshine on average each year, Cape Town is a top destination for an adventure-filled holiday, while lucky Capetonians can feed their thirst for adventure throughout the year.

The city has a number of skilled operators offering specialised air adventures, including abseiling, paragliding, microlighting and parachuting. Other companies focus on water activities, such as diving with great white sharks, surfing lessons, scuba diving, kite-surfing and high-speed power-boat trips.

Natural wonders

In Cape Town, you can enjoy active tours, such as hiking or diving tours. You can head up Table Mountain with an accredited guide, visit the Kogelbay Biosphere or scuba and snorkel in the Atlantic or Indian oceans. Many overland African safaris also begin in Cape Town.

Adventurous tourists can go abseiling, skydiving or shark-cage diving. Try kayaking from Simon’s Town to the nearby Boulders Beach penguin colony, or take a boat trip out to Seal Island, which is something even little kids will love.

Nature-lovers should also consider including a tour with a botanist in Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, one of the eight protected areas in the Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site. The area is described by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation as “one of the richest areas for plants in the world” and 70% of the species here occur nowhere else on Earth.

Sports and outdoors

Cape Town offers many activities for sporting and outdoor enthusiasts. A fabulous experience is a Cape Town soccer tour, on which you see how great divides in our society are overcome by a shared passion for football.

Even those who are less than fanatical about soccer will catch South African football fever after this tour. It’s all about people who inspire.
