Paarl and Wellington Tourism

Together, the towns of Paarl and Welington fall into the picturesque Drakenstein region, where incredible scenic beauty and a veil of surrounding mountains make for popular wine tasting experiences, cellar tours, historical attractions and Winelands weddings.

Paarl, the pearl of the Cape Winelands is named for its impressive granite outcrop on the crest of Paarl Mountain. The third-oldest town in South Africa, and the home of the Afrikaans Language Monument, Paarl is also where Nelson Mandela spent his last years in prison – an important part of South Africa’s history.

Wellington is the land of fruit orchards, wine estates and olive groves, where the streets are lined with historic Cape Dutch homesteads and beautiful gardens. The crystal-clear rock pools found at Wellington’s renowned Bain’s Kloof Pass are a big draw card, with many hikers taking their steps up the riverbed, surrounded by incredible fynbos and indigenous fauna and flora. It’s also a popular town for guided wine-walks and horse-trails through its idyllic wine estates.
