Muizenberg Historical Conservation Society
Found along the main road of Muizenberg, the Muizenberg Historical Conservation Society is proud to run Het Posthuys. Built around 1670, it is the oldest building on the False Bay Coast and now operates as a museum.
One of many genuine historic sites in Cape Town, its purpose over time has changed from a lookout post for enemy and smuggler ships to a naval storage facility and even a private residence! One of the oldest stones used in the flooring still contains grooves thought to be a result of an ochre-grinding stone, a tool used by the ancient Khoisan inhabitants of the region.
The Rhodes Cottage Museum details the life, ideals, achievements and death of colonialist Cecil John Rhodes. In his time used as his own private retreat, it now has a beautiful garden overlooking the ocean and is filled with English flowers and fynbos. Entry is by donation.
