A mere 45-minute drive from Cape Town, Ashia is surrounded by award winning wineries and orchards. Grapes, guavas, olives, and a smaller crop of home-grown produce are cultivated on this beautiful 35 hectare working farm outside Paarl. After the purchase of the farm in 2016, an area of 10ha has since then been transformed into the present cheetah sanctuary.
Dedicated to fighting for the future survival of Africa’s most endangered big cat through education and research, Ashia’s focus lies on the release of captive-born cheetahs into a protected wild. Ashia’s Release Programme has successfully started in 2018 with the release of a female cheetah onto a private game reserve in South Africa. Since then, 5 more cheetahs have been brought to a game reserve and are currently undergoing their wilding process for release.
Four luxurious and spacious one- and two-bedroom suites, each en-suite with a fully equipped kitchenette, offer sumptuous comfort in relaxed surroundings. A stay at Ashia includes daily continental breakfast and an animal and farm tour with one of our experienced guides to provide you with a first-hand peek behind the scenes into our cheetah conservation efforts, as well as the opportunity to observe our resident cheetahs, servals and leopards at play in a natural looking environment.
Refresh and eat at the Café with its sweeping views over the dramatic Drakenstein mountains, browse through the extensive selection of high-end gifts and memorabilia in the Boutique Shop, or explore the beauty and diversity of the farm on foot. A can’t-miss bucket list activity is signing up for an early morning cheetah run, for the opportunity to watch and photograph the world’s fastest land mammal.
Should you wish to get more hands-on, various volunteer activities are available for a day or part thereof.
It is notable to mention that Ashia is a not-for-profit undertaking. All surplus raised from our operations are used to fund and support our cheetah release programme. Ashia is also Fair Trade Tourism certified in three categories – attractions, volunteers and accommodation.
- In-depth educational experience about cheetah conservation in action
- Exclusivity – only 20 day visitors allowed per day out so as not to overwhelm or stress the cats
- Food – fresh & homemade produce grown on the farm
