The Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument
It’s not often that you have a museum dedicated to something as alive and as contemporary as the Afrikaans language. Arguably the most widely spoken language in the Western Cape, Die Afrikaanse Taal Museum en Monument celebrates and explores Afrikaans in Paarl, the heart of the Cape Winelands.
This museum of Afrikaans offers guided tours from experts who are able to explain the language and its history from personal perspectives. It’s found on Pastorialaan in the home of Gideon Malherbe, a prominent custodian of the language.
Courses are on offer such as Museum Studies, Records Management Workshop and Archiving. Completed in 1974, the granite Monument dominates the skyline as you pull into this incredibly beautiful town set about with wine estates and vineyards. It completes a thorough experience of this uniquely South African language.
