Cape Town’s Good Food & Wine Show more accessible with affordable packages

The annual Good Food & Wine Show will take place at the CTICC from May 24 to 27, 2012. This year, Cape Town Tourism has partnered with several industry players to make it easier and more affordable for foodie enthusiasts to get in on the action in Cape Town, with holiday packages for a number of traveller profiles.

The Good Food & Wine Show is South Africa’s annual leading food, wine and lifestyle event, consistently providing informative talks by some of the world’s greatest chefs and food aficionados, as well as a food and beverage focused exhibition and workshops.

Often touted as the gourmet capital of South Africa, Cape Town will be a foodie mecca this May. Cape Town Tourism, in association with the Good Food & Wine Show’s organisers, Mango Airlines and Thompsons, are offering a three-day Thompsons Holiday package, including return flights to Cape Town on Mango Airlines, airport taxes, Avis car hire, three nights’ accommodation and entrance to the Good Food and Wine Show.

Passionate foodies will have various packages to choose from, including a four-star package with the Protea Hotel Victoria Junction from R2,752 per person, a three-star package at the Garden Court Eastern Boulevard from R2,699 per person, and a four-star stay at The Cullinan Southern Sun from R3,390 per person. A five-star package is available for the Twelve Apostles Hotel from R5,483 per person.

Louise Cashmore, Sales and Marketing Director of the Good Food and Wine Show said: “We are so excited to have collaborated with Thompsons and Cape Town Tourism, to offer visitors from Johannesburg and Durban the opportunity to see Cake Boss and other great celebrity chefs at the Cape Good Food & Wine Show, May 24-27 this year. The programme is jam-packed with workshops, demonstrations, chocolate appreciation courses, cocktails, wine forums, brandy and whisky tastings and awesome specials on cookware and must-have gadgets for foodies. We are also welcoming CBeebies’ Mister Maker to the Good Food & Wine Show, and have an array of exciting cooking workshops for children aged three to seven and eight to twelve.”

Angela Wood, GM of Marketing at Thompsons Holidays added: “The Cape has a rich history of making fine wines, producing export quality fruit and berries, excellent cheese and Rooibos tea, to mentiona few of the gourmet offerings from the area, which have placed South Africa on the world food scene. Needless to say, the Cape has established itself as the food capital of the country. Thompsons Holidays are offering three-night packages from Johannesburg, including flights, from only R2,136, to the Good Food & Wine Show in Cape Town to give all food enthusiasts the opportunity to experience this showcase of the top food and wine the Cape has to offer.”

Pumla Luhabe, Head of Commercial at Mango Airlines, said: “There is never a better or more affordable time to visit Cape Town than when the city compliments its heritage and natural beauty with a soupcon of gourmet at the Good Food & Wine Show. The packages make visiting the Mother City during this time a value-treat, taking the hassle out of planning and instead, injecting it with the promise of a great time. Mango is passionate about innovation and enriching experiences, whether high in the sky or appreciated around a dinner table.”

Communications Manager at Cape Town Tourism, Skye Grove, concluded: “Cape Town Tourism strives to partner with great service providers on packages to Cape Town’s leading events as we disprove the myth that Cape Town is a summer season destination only. Cape Town is a value-for-money destination that offers just as much in its mild winters as it does in its glorious summers. With packages such as these, we hope to promote Cape Town as a 365-day destination, and increase visitors to the destination all year round.”
