Adventure Cape Town
Adventurers and adrenalin junkies are spoilt for choice when visiting Cape Town. Here are just a few heart-thumping activities for you to try out and review.
Hiking
Table Mountain and Lion’s Head are the two most popular hikes in Cape Town and both have starting points within a few kilometres of the city centre.
Lion’s Head is suitable for those with a basic fitness level. The average hiker should reach the top within 45 minutes to enjoy superb views of the city and coastline.
The Platteklip Gorge route up Table Mountain is the most challenging, but also the quickest way to the summit. If you don’t fancy walking back down, catch the cable car instead.

Shark-Cage Diving
A number of shark-cage diving tours take place in False Bay, which is home to thousands of great white sharks.
The best months of the year for shark-cage diving are between May and October, but tours operate throughout the year. Diving with sharks is also offered for qualified divers at the Two Oceans Aquarium.
Surfing
Some of the top surfing spots in Cape Town are Llandudno, Muizenberg and Blouberg. Experienced big wave surfers can also test their skills at Dungeons near Hout Bay or at Kalk Bay reef.
Unless you are incredibly tough, you will need a wetsuit to ward off the cool Cape water!
Motor Racing
Killarney is the oldest motor racing circuit in South Africa and hosts various forms of motor sport.
You can even get behind the wheel of a Formula 3 car to test your driving skills – after a short briefing. Phone Fantastic Racing on +27 (0)21 461 1414 for more information.
Paragliding
Given the amazing scenery along Cape Town’s coastline, it’s little wonder that paragliding is such a popular activity.

Sandboarding
It’s like snowboarding, but on sand. A quick briefing is all beginners need before they get going.
Sandboarding sites in Atlantis and Betty’s Bay are both within an hour’s drive of Cape Town.
