The Design Indaba, an annual event launched in 1995, celebrates South Africa’s vibrant and inspiring creative sector. The Indaba, held every February at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, explores all forms of creative design, from graphic, fashion and industrial design to architecture, fine art and craft.

Organisers believe that “creativity will fuel an economic revolution in South Africa” and hope to do so by “showcasing local design to an international contingent”, according to the official website.

The Indaba’s famous conference – a must for the creatively inclined – features talks by design experts from many fields, including advertising and interior design. More than 2 000 delegates attend the conference – the winner of the Best Conference Category at the 2005 Exhibition for the Incentive Business Travel and Meetings Awards – to hear about the latest innovative ideas, trends and techniques.

The Design Indaba Expo boasts more than 200 fantastic stalls, each showing the latest design trends. Fashion shows, film screenings, product launches and expert advice – the opportunities to soak up South Africa’s creativity are limitless at the annual Expo. Unique crafts, jewellery, fashion and art are just some of the Expo’s highlights.

The Design Indaba is a highlight of the Cape Town event calendar. The website proudly proclaims, “Creativity that knows no bounds”, and at the Design Indaba, this is more than evident.
