Two Successful Board Fund Beneficiaries announced
At the end of 2013, the Cape Town Tourism Board took a collective decision to forfeit their small monthly remuneration for contribution towards a fund (topped up by Cape Town Tourism) that will be awarded to two Historically Disadvantaged Individuals (HDIs) SMME businesses.
After issuing a Call for Proposals, Cape Town Tourism received many promising applications and after undergoing a thorough selection process, created a shortlist of five candidates. Belhoorn Guest House, Cooking with Love, Ozzie’s Golf Guide, Travel with René and Ubizo Events and Tours all impressed with innovative ideas and plans.
Following a meeting with the selection panel, the two successful HDI SMMEs have now been announced as Ozzie’s Golf Guide and Travel with René. They will each receive R50 000 as well as non-financial support in the form of a complimentary Cape Town Tourism membership, mentorship by board members, training and marketing involvement.
Ozzie’s Golf Guide provides a personalised service to local and international guests to ensure that they experience a memorable round of golf in Cape Town, including securing tee time, transportation and golf equipment.
Travel with René is a niche tourism business that offers two specialised vehicles to assist with the transportation needs of people with disabilities and their families. The owner, René, has been a wheelchair user for over 18 years and has successfully started up this business to fill the gap.
Both these businesses will now, with the help of Cape Town Tourism, formulate a detailed project plan with relevant budget, timelines and actions to be rolled out over the next couple of months.
Cape Town Tourism and its Board are looking forward to follow the progress of these two businesses and see the success stories unfold.
