Tourism services update – April 2012

Cape Town Tourism’s Executive Manager: Tourism Services, Enver Duminy, will speak at a brunch event hosted by Safer Together on Monday, May 14 2012 to discuss the companies’ integrated approach to safety in tourism. He will also refer to the importance of individual and business participation to help improve the safety and security of our visitors, by taking responsibility for tourism safety.

Visitor services

The official CTT Visitor Information Centre network achieved 13 495 walk-in visitors during March 2012, 5 891 of which were domestic and 7 604 were international.

The top domestic contributors to the visitor numbers were Western Cape (68%), Gauteng (13%) and Eastern Cape (5%). A 4% increase in domestic visitors can be attributed to the Cape Argus Cycle Tour which took place in March.

The top three contributors to international visitor numbers, were Germany (25%), Europe (Other) (23%) and UK (20%).

Frontline team members were actively involved in the Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour and Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, both held in Cape Town. The Expo for both events afforded staff the opportunity to be brand ambassadors outside of the visitor centres.

Industry services

A total of 218 member care communications were recorded for March, including emails, office calls and telephonic interactions, while 21 information introduction sessions were undertaken with members to discuss benefits.

Fifteen product site visits and educationals were conducted, and our sales team offered 13 members business support sessions.

The team completed nine new accommodation and tour operator assessments; 53 bi-annual assessments are scheduled for the next three months.

Our 16 VICs offered member care to 196 emerging entrepreneurs and potential members, while CTT Industry Business Support consultants assisted 112 SMMEs with business support enquiries. CTT has 281 emerging entrepreneurs on our database.

Many of our members have also received additional benefits through marketing platforms this month. Twenty seven members’ products where used for CTT’s Guest and Media Relations programme; nine blogs appeared about specific members; nine members were included in a Two Oceans Marathon competition and six of our members are partnering with CTT and Thompsons as part of our winter campaign.
